Summary
This article talks about the different styles of leadership for motivating and directing an organization. This involves how leaders go about with their plans and imposing objectives amongst their members. It is therefore important for leaders to understand the different styles to become more effective at adapting towards different situations. Through this managers and leaders can increase the success of their organization by increasing engagement and communication. The following includes the different styles of leadership according to the article.
1. Democratic Leadership
This type of leadership allows individuals in the group to contribute to organization objectives. Team members can give input and leaders gain insight to help in making final decisions. By engaging the team to contribute members tend to be more productive and in turn have a higher satisfaction with the organization.
2. Autocratic Leadership
For this leadership style the leader tends to make all decisions based on there beliefs with no input from the team. This type of leadership can create resentment towards leaders. Although it can be useful in situations where leaders are knowledgeable and highly experienced where decisions need to be made under a time constraint.
3. Laissez-Faire Leadership
This type of leadership involves providing the group with the resources necessary to accomplish a task and then allowing them to independently work towards the goal with no further input. With this type of leadership members can become highly satisfied with the levels of independence and trust. However chaos and organization often can become a problem.
4. Transformational Leadership
This type of leadership is highly useful in motivating members to better themselves. this type of leadership is about increasing innovative growth and production through people in the organization. However leaders in this field should have good communication skills and high emotional intelligence.
5.Transactional Leadership
This type of leadership involves incentives from leaders for accomplishing tasks. Incentives such as payments are given once work has been completed by the employee. This type of leadership is very direct and can cause high turn over due to its lack in engaging creativity.
6. Bureaucratic Leadership
This type of leadership involves sticking to rules and taking in little input from employees. It is effective in jobs where safety is a concern and high levels of control are required, as it is highly structured in a hierarchy flow of power.
7. Servant Leadership
This leader put the needs of the team first and provides to them by finding ways to develop and inspire. This helps create a positive working atmosphere, however may not be suited for intense environments where deadlines are important.
Thoughts
Through this article I learned the importance in becoming knowledgeable in different leadership styles. This is important to me as I aspire to become a leader in my future career as a real estate agent one day. Through considering options I've learned through the article its important to be familiar with how to match a style with factors such as how you want to develop and grow an organization, what kind of work is involved as well as personal preferences. It is also important to consider the personality of those within the organization and how they respond to different styles. From learning the different styles I've discovered my personal success in the future will depend on how well I can incorporate styles to best suit my needs and that of the organization.
