She talks about how it is important to be able to adapt a style based on organization personality since individuals under different situations benefit from different leadership styles. The following are the 10 most important styles according to Jen and when to consider them effective.

1. Coach 

Leaders of this style are able to interact well with their followers and engage by motivating them through goal setting. This style is best used in a work place that values learning through mentoring.

2. Visionary 

This type of leader thrives during organizational change by inspiring employees to further growth through confidence. This type of leader is great in organizations that strive for new innovative ways for accomplishing work.

3. Servant

This leader puts the needs of their followers first to gain satisfaction and respect. As this will in turn increase performance and engagement. These leaders build employee moral to lead towards success. This type of leader is often found in non for profit organizations.

4. Autocratic 

Autocratic leaders solely make decision and expect followers to do as they say. They are highly focused on results and take in very little input from followers. This type of leadership is used in fields with strict rules and compliance heavy industries. 

5. Laissez Faire 

This leader delegates tasks amongst the group without providing solutions. This is most efficient when members are well experienced and trained. As well it allows the leader to work on multiple projects at a time.

6. Democratic

Democratic leaders listen and considers input from their team when making decisions. This increases employee engagement and work place satisfaction. This is well used in highly innovative and creative industries.

7. Pacesetter

These leaders are highly focused on performance and highly skilled at keeping their members set on reaching the goals of the organization. They set high standards to accomplish quick results.

8. Transformational 

Transformational leaders consider the objectives of the organization and use this in motivating people towards the goals. This leadership is used in teams where everyone shares the same goal.

9. Transactional 

This leadership is focused on training, communication and motivation through rewards. It is important for teams that need to reach specific objectives by a specific deadline.

10. Burocratic 

These leaders require that members follow the rules exactly as written. They manage in a hierarchical structure and are best suited in highly regulated industries that have no room for mistakes.

Finally it is important to note from the author that consequences from poorly choosing a leadership style for a team can have severe consequences. Hence the importance on understanding the needs and behavior's of the team as well as what you are trying to accomplish to gain the most success as a leader.

Thoughts

As someone who is a current leader this article encourages me to think further at my role. It encourages my critical thinking and evaluation skills. After learning through this article I will continue to grow as a leader and consider the impact of different options and how I can increase creativity and success amongst my team.
